Jamie Murray and his mixed doubles partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands made history this weekend at the US Open by becoming the first team in 37 years to win back-to-back mixed doubles titles. A feat the pair achieved easily on Saturday afternoon in Arthur Ashe stadium when they defeated the top seeds in straight sets.
It’s safe to say that the US Open is a special place for Jamie Murray. This year’s mixed doubles win makes it the 4th consecutive year he’s walked away with a trophy from Flushing Meadows. After winning the Men’s Doubles in 2016 he went on to claim a Mixed Doubles victory in 2017, 2018 and now in 2019. In another impressive stat his latest win makes him the first man in 60 years to win 3 straight US Open mixed doubles titles.
It was a positive 2 weeks in New York for Jamie in the Men’s doubles also. He and his new partner (fellow Brit Neal Skupski) made it as far as the Semi-Finals before being defeated by the top seeds. The pair seem to have found their momentum as team, something which is such a huge part of the doubles game and Jamie acknowledges ‘bodes well for them going forward.’
Jamie Murray is a great supporter of grassroots tennis and of the doubles game in particular. He recently launched a YouTube channel offering subscribers instructional videos to help them improve their doubles game. He expressed why in a recent interview saying, “I think doubles is kind of the bedrock of the amateur game, I think it’s a huge part of our sport.”
We are incredibly proud to be supporting Jamie on his champions journey and encouraging him to Play Brave every step of the way. We offer him our hearty congratulations on his historic run at the 2019 US Open it was a pleasure to be a part of it.
